Wet wet time or it is warming?

As I write this, somewhere in Selangor, thunder is heard and lightning is seen, outside. Pitter-patter of faint raindrops turn to thud-thud of dense rain drops.I do not recall the weather being this wet last year. Frankly speaking, it has been raining daily since mid-October. I know as I tend to notice the wet weather as it is almost the year end and this sort of climate brings back nostalgic, fleeting thoughts of an era past, in a far and distant land.

Back in the fall of 2005, Hurricane Rita, the fifth major hurricane of the 2005 season, made landfall in Texas just as  I touched down in Los Angeles.I could see anxiety and fear were on the faces fn everyone around me as memories of Katrina surfaced from within.

Is our strange climatic behavior a symptom of global warming(GW)? I am in the midst of reading Ian Wishart's Air Con, The Seriously Inconvenient Truth about Global Warming, an it is turning my ideas and understanding of GW topsy turvy. Here is a couple of facts: The 2005 CO2 level are at 379 parts per million(ppm). We are about 240 years after the beginning of the industrial revolution, which James Watt invented the first steam engine in 1765. Early in the Paleozoic era, which began about 600,000,000 years ago, atmospheric levels of CO2 has been pegged at a whopping 7000 ppm!. What gives? What cars did the pre-historic creatures drive back then? Something is happening and we need to investigate what is happening here.

Final month of an eventful year

Folks,

I am back. Back from what you may wonder. Back from the abyss of a mind that is so fickle, a mind that never seems to continue, much less sustain what was started. Yes. I am back in blogosphere. Will I now turn over a newer leaf and resolve to commit thought to a liquid crystal display? I can't say.  I should not be rushed, neither should I be coerced into settling into a routine that I may grow bored.

As sure as the monsoon rains in South East Asia goes, you can bet that I will occasionally visit and make my presence felt.

Till next time Carpe Diem!

Flu remedy

I followed the recommended Soda Bicarbonate doses, and i started to expel phlegm from my body. I have less flu like symptoms these days (i tend to have a runny nose in the morning) and my nose is clearing up.

I will continue taking it until all mucus in my body is expelled. Perhaps i will complement this protocol by drinking a glass of warm water with a couple of tea spoons of lemon juice every morning.

Stay tuned!

Baking Soda as an All Natural Remedy

My younger son, Prabhjyot, visited a pediatrician early this week. He was prescribed some antibiotics for his throat infection and two different syrup mixture for his cough and cold.
Why do they get it at all? I asked myself. Could it be that his immune system is weak?  could it be that the weather outside is too hot?  i don't know the answers to these questions ...yet.  I am quite happy to take the medicines and leave the clinic.

Then I began to recall an article i read sometime  ago on a cost effective remedy for common flu (and other types of flu).

Overlooked 150 Year Old Household Cleaner a Remedy for Swine Flu?

In today's modern world of medicine the FDA just will not let companies that sell products make medical claims about them unless they have been tested at great expense, and approved as a drug. But this was not always the case.

In a 1924 booklet published by the Arm & Hammer Soda Company, the company starts off saying, "The proven value of Arm & Hammer Bicarbonate of Soda as a therapeutic agent is further evinced by the following evidence of a prominent physician named Dr. Volney S. Cheney, in a letter to the Church & Dwight Company:

"In 1918 and 1919 while fighting the 'Flu' with the U. S. Public Health Service it was brought to my attention that rarely any one who had been thoroughly alkalinized with bicarbonate of soda contracted the disease, and those who did contract it, if alkalinized early, would invariably have mild attacks."

Recommended dosages from the Arm and Hammer Company for colds and influenza back in 1925 were:

  • During the first day take six doses of half teaspoonful of Bicarbonate of Soda in glass of cool water, at about two hour intervals
  • During the second day take four doses of half teaspoonful of Bicarbonate of Soda in glass of cool water, at the same intervals
  • During the third day take two doses of half teaspoonful of Bicarbonate of Soda in glass of cool water morning and evening, and thereafter half teaspoonful in glass of cool water each morning until cold is cured

as for me, i will try out the remedy on myself first. Let the adventure begin!

Hot Weather

Hot weather continues unabated. Was driving my car out to lunch today and noticed that the temperature gauge read 42 deg Celcius. That is really hot.
How are we living? How can we live like this?

wow!

i am lost for words...still lost for words...last post mentions that i am a proud father of a 2-year old son and that i work for a research lab.

now, i have another addition to the family, i.e a son who will be 2 next month. that i no longer work for the lab and have moved to the IT services for a major energy player seems like a deja vu of some sort.

well, IT services of that energy player has been outsourced to a large German concern and i am here at the moment.

the new English Premier Season has dawned upon us and the Beijing Olympics is almost coming to a close. i am hoping that i will up the ante on my efforts to regularly blog and a prolific one too.

peace and light

Oh ! I did forget to mention that now i am a proud father of a 2-year old boy, Gaganraaj ? He is an adorable little fella.

The unpopular war has started. Many oppose but the few in control don't listen. What have we come too?
